THE INTROITS, ETC.

Note on Nos. 657 to 733. For each day the Introit is given first in one paragraph, the Gloria Patri being for convenience omitted. In the second paragraph are given in their order-the Grail or Gradual (G), Alleluya (A), Tract (for the days between Septuagesima and Easter) (T), Offertory (0), and Communion (C). Sequences are included among the hymns.

ADVENT SUNDAY. Ad te levavi. Unto

657 thee, O Lord, lift I up my soul : 0 my

God, in thee have I trusted, let me not be confounded neither let mine enemies triumph over me for all they that look for thee shall not be ashamed. Ps. Show me thy ways, O Lord and teach me thy paths.

CHRISTMAS-DAY (FIRST SERVICE). Do662 minus dixit. The Lord hath said unto me: Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. Ps. Why do the heathen so furiously rage together and why do the people imagine a vain thing?

G. In the day of thy power shall the people offer thee free-will offerings with an holy worship: the dew of thy birth is of the womb of the morning.

CHRISTMAS-DAY (LAST SERVICE). Puer 663 natus est. Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given

and the government shall be upon his shoulder and his name shall be called, Angel of mighty Counsel. Ps. O sing unto the Lord a new song: for he hath done marvellous things.

HOLY INNOCENTS. Ex ore infantium. 666 Out of the mouth of very babes, O God, and of sucklings, hast thou perfected praise, because of thine adversaries. Ps. O Lord, our Governor how excellent is thy name in all the world.
