¶ BECKFORD (Wm.) 13 Autograph Letters (2 4to.), from Wm. Beckford mostly to H. E. Goodridge, signed W. B., average length. of 20 lines, some dated 1836. £2 2s. ¶BERRY (Duchesse de, fille de François I.). A.L.S., dated Xbre. 6, 1832, from the Chateau de Blaye, where she was imprisoned. 14 lines addressed to Monsieur Bossange.

¶ BETHLEM HOSPITAL.-Signed Verses of 14 lines on " Epitaph of my poor Jack Squirrel" and 6 lines on a similar subject, written and signed by James Hadfield in Bethlem Hospital. Hadfield was tried and acquitted on the ground of insanity of a charge of firing a pistol at King George III. from the Pit of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in 1800. Curious.

BUNYAN (John) A Copy of Bryan's Dwelling with God, with preface by Richard Baxter, 1670, on the first fly-leaf of which is written 'John Bunyan." While we are unable to guarantee the signature, we have compared it with the one on his Will and the same peculiarity of writing the capital "B" appears in both. If we could in any way prove its genuineness it would of course be worth many times the price we ask.

The earliest letter is dated 1735 and the last 1872, the subjects of them being varied; the greater part of them are signed "Derby," but a few were written before the writers succeeded to the earldom and are signed "Stanley." There is also one letter from Lady Derby, 1872. The bundle, 5s.

¶ MELANCTHON (Philip). An Original Letter, dated, Juli 9, 1544, containing 39 lines on folio paper, with his signature. It is written to Hieronymus Paumgartner, Sen Reipublicae Noriberg, who died in 1566. A copf in "fairer characters" by a modern writer [1851] goes with it-on which is an attestation of the genuineness of the original letter. Included also is an engraved portrait of Paumgartner. Having been very carefully preserved, the letter is in
