THE FIRST ISSUE OF THE FIRST EDITION. SCARCE.

£1 10s.

Michael Arlen's "The London Venture" was prepared for publication and printed in 1919. Publication was however, postponed until January 1920, when the publishers inserted in all copies sold a cancel title-page dated 1920. This book was bound in black boards with a white design. "The London Venture" did not sell in large numbers and the publishers sold the remaining sheets of the first printing to a "remainder" bookseller, who bound them in grey cloth, using the same blocks as the publishers, but printing in black ink. This bookseller did not insert in these copies the cancel title-page dated 1920-therefore the copies in the later binding bear the earlier date 1919.
