31. PROBATION. 1 Lo! on a narrow neck of land, "Twixt two unbounded seas I stand, Yet ho, insensible; A point of time, a moment's space, Removes me to that heavenly place, Or shuts me up in hell. 2. O God, my inmost soul convert, And deeply on my thoughtful heart Eternal things impress: And make me, ere it be too late, 2. Before me place in dread array, The ponip of that tremendous day, When thou with clouds shalt come, To judge the nations at thy bar; And tell me, Lord, shall I be there To meet a joyful doom? 4. Be this my one great business here With serious industry and fear To make my calling sure: Thine utmost counsel to fulfil, Confined to neither court nor cell, His soul disdains on earth to dwell, He only sojourns here. 2. This happiness in part is mine, Already saved from low design, From every creature love! Blest with the scorn of finite good, My soul is lighten'd of its load, And seeks the things above. 3. The things eternal I pursue, A happiness beyond the view Of those, that basely pant For things by nature felt and seen: Their honors, wealth, and pleasures mean, I neither have nor want. 4. Nothing on earth I call my own; A stranger to the world, unknown, I all their goods despise; And seek a city out of sight, 5. There is my house and portion fair, My treasure and my heart are there, And my abiding home; For me my elder brethren stay, And suffer all thy righteous 6. I come, thy servant, Lord, re will, And to the end endure. 32. THE PILGRIM'S LOT. 1. How happy is the pilgrim's lot; How free from every anxious thought, From worldly hope and fear! plics, I come to meet thee in the skies, And claim my heavenly rest! Now let the pilgrim's journey end, Now, O my Savior, Brother, Friend, Receive me to thy breast! 33. In songs of sublime. 1. IN songs of sublime adoration and praise ; 2. His love from oteruity fixed upon you,― When each with the cords of his kindness he drew, And brought you to love his great name. 3. O, had not he pitied the siate you were in, Your bosoms his love had ne'er felt: You all would have lived, would have died too in sin, And sunk with the load of your guilt. 4. What was there in you, that couid merit esteem, Or give the Creator delight? 'Twas "Even so, Father," you ever must sing, Because it seemed good in thy sight." 66 5. Twas al! of thy grace we were brought to obey; While others were suffered to go The road, which by nature, we chose as our way, That leads to the regions of woe. 6. Then give all the glory to his holy name, To him all the glory belongs; Be yours the high joy stili to sound forth his fame, Aad crown him in each of your songs. 5* 34. Christ our all. 1. VAIN delusive world adieu, Who bought me with his blood; I'll trample on thy wealth and pride; And Jesus crucified! 2. Other knowledge I disdain, Christ, the Lamb of God, was slain, And Jesus crucified! 3. Him to know is life and peace, 4. O that I could all invite, Show the length, and breadth, and height, And depth of Jesus' love; Fain I would to sinners show, This blood alone by faith applied; Only Jesus will I know, And Jesus crucified! |
