The Father's Discipline

I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.-Isa. 48: 10.

Thou broughtest us into the net; Thou laidst affliction upon our loins.-Psa. 66:11.

No man should be moved by these afflictions for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.-1 Thess. 3:3.

But though He cause grief, yet will He have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.-Lam. 3:32, 33.

Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.-Job 5:17.

For whom the Lord loveth He correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.-Prov. 3:12.

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.Rev. 3:19.

My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him: for whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son

is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards and not sons. Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but He for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless, afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down and the feeble knees.Heb. 12:5-12.

The Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.-Deut. 13:3.

Blessed is the man whom Thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law, that thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity.-Psa. 94: 12, 13.

Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word. It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes. I know, O Lord, that thy judg

ments are right, and that Thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.-Psa. 119: 67, 71, 75.

When he slew them, then they sought Him; and they returned and inquired early after God.-Psa. 78:34.

He is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap; and He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; and He shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.-Mal. 3:2, 3.

He knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.Job 23: 10.

Every branch that beareth fruit, He purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.John 15:2.

For it became Him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the Captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. Heb. 2: 10.

Though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered.Heb. 5:8.

We glory in tribulations also; knowing that tribulation worketh patience.-Rom. 5:3.

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceed

ing and eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.-2 Cor. 4:17, 18.

Let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well-doing, as unto a faithful Creator. -1 Peter 4: 19.

The Father's Pity

The Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy.-James 5:11.

Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear Him. For He knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.-Psa. 103:13, 14.

But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned He his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath. For He remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away and cometh not again.-Psa. 78:38, 39.

In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the Angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity He redeemed them: and

He bare them and carried them all the days of old.-Isa. 63:9.

His soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.-Judges 10: 16.

The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.-Psa. 145:9, 14.

He stayeth His rough wind in the day of the east wind.-Isa. 27:8.

For the needy shall not always be forgotten.-Psa. 9: 18.

For He shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor, also, and him that hath no helper. He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy. He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence, and precious shall their blood be in His sight.-Psa. 72: 12-14.
