commend to thy care and blessing the President of the United States, the Governor of this State, and all others in authority. May they have wisdom to discern, and firmness to pursue the true interests of this people; may they employ all their influence to promote peace and virtue; and under their government may justice and judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream. Endue with grace and clothe with godliness the ministers of religion. May they do honour to thy truth in their public services and their private conduct; and wilt thou so direct and bless them, both in their preaching and living, that they sw 191 frod may save themselves, and those who hear them. We beseech thee to bless all seminaries of learning, all governors and instructers of youth, all patrons and promoters of sound lite rature and knowledge; and grant that all the means and opportunities of mental, moral, and reli gious advancement which are enjoyed among us, may be thankfully acknow 97 uwoq ils to mistrvo

firmly and cheerfully rely. Whenever we address thee, O Father, if our prayers are unwise, pity us; if they are presumptuous, pardon us; if acceptable to thee, grant them, all powerful God; and as we now express our submission to thy decrees, adore thy providence, and bless thy dispensations, so, in that future state, to which we reverently hope thy good

THE Lord bless us and keep us; the Lord make his face shine upon us, and be gracious unto us; the Lord lift up his countenance upon us, and give us peace, now and evermore. Amen.

The Service may commence with the following Psalm; after which the Person officiating may use such parts of the common Morning or Evening Prayer, as he shall judge proper.

PSALM 93.

THE Lord is King, and hath put on glorious apparel, and girded himself with strength.

He hath made the world so sure, that it cannotabe moved.

Ever since the world began, hath thy throne been prepared; thou art from everlasting.

The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their

waves.

The waves of the sea are mighty, and rage horribly; but yet the Lord, who dwelleth on high, is mightier.

Thy testimonies, O Lord, are very sure, holiness be-cometh thine house for ever.

After the Collect for the Day may ! be used the following Prayer..

O ETERNAL Lord God, who alone spreadest out the heavens, and rulest the raging of the sea; who hast compassed the waters with bounds, until day and night come to an end; be pleased to receive into thine almighty and most gracious protection, the persons of us thy servants, who now call upon thy name from the bosom of the mighty

deep. Borne on the surface of a changing element, and exposed to the vicissitudes of the inconstant skies, may we always feel ourselves in the presence and merciful care of that infinite and holy God, who hath measured the waters in the bollow of his hand, and meted out heayen with a span. Preserve us, we pray thee, from the dangers of the sea; from shipwreck; from fire; from the wrath of the tempest; from the violence of enemies; and grant that we may arrive at our desired haven, in safety, health, and peace, and with a thankful remembrance of thy rich and manifold mercies. But we do more especially pray, O Lord our God, that if thou shouldst see fit to bring us into peril and misfor tune, we may bear thy whole will with perfect submission, and surrender ourselves in every event to thine absolute and all wise disposal. Whether we are in danger or at rest, in sickness or health, in life or death, let us be thine, O Lord, and wholly thine.

Hear us in behalf of our country, and grant that it

may constantly prosper under thy care, and be de fended with thy favourable kindness as with a shield. Bless our absent friends, wherever they may be preserve them from evil; and in thy great mercy permit us to see them again, and rejoice in their society and welfare.

We thank thee, that thou hast thus far preserv ed us; we thank thee for this opportunity of calling on thy name; we commend ourselves and our interests to thy holy keeping; and ascribe unto thee all honour and glory, (dominion and praise, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

VO LORD, our God, who madest heaven, and earth, and sea, and all that therein is, and who keepest thy promise forever; mercifully hear the prayers of thy, servants; deliver us from the dangers of the seas; protect and prosper usin the way we go, and bring us to our haven and to our friends in peace; but above all things grant that we may always submit to thy will and pleasure, and obey

O MOST glorious and gracious Lord God, who dwellest in heaven, but be holdest all things below; look down, we beseech thee, and hear us, calling out of the depth of misery, and out of the jaws of this death, which is now ready to swallow, us up. Save, Lord, or else we perish. The living, the living shall praise thee.
