10. Glory to the Triune God.

1 We bless the Father for his love; To that celestial spring we owe All we expect of bliss above,

And all our comfort here below.

2 Almighty Saviour, Son of God,

Our grateful hearts would give thee praise; Thou hast redeem'd us by thy blood, And sav'd us from destruction's ways.

3 We bless the eternal Spirit too,

Whose gracious streams within us rise, To cleanse our hearts, and heal our woe, And raise us to our kindred skies.

THE ATTRIBUTES

AND

PERFECTIONS OF GOD.

11. Divine Perfections. Ps. 111.

1 SONGS of immortal praise belong

To our Almighty God;

He claims our heart, and claims our tongue
To spread his name abroad.

2 Great are the works which he has wrought,
And wondrous in our sight;
And men in every age have sought
To trace them with delight.

3 His wisdom, truth, and goodness shine
Without defect. or stain;
His righteousness is all divine,
And ever shall remain.

4 Our wisdom is to seek his face,
To fear and serve the Lord;
And he's the wisest of our race,
Who best obeys his word.

12. The Majesty of God. Ps. 104. 1—5, 24, . 25, 34, 35.

1 My soul, thy great Creator praise,
Who, cloth'd in his celestial rays,
In dazzling majesty appears,
And like a robe his glory wears.

Great is the Lord; what tongue can frame
An equal honour to his name?

2 The heav'ns for him a curtain form,
He hangs his chambers in the storm:
Clouds are his chariot, when he flies
On winged tempests thro' the skies.
Great is the Lord, &c.

3 Angels, whom his own breath inspires,
His ministers, are flaming fires;

Swift at his word their armies move,
To bear his vengeance, or his love.
Great is the Lord, &c.

4 The world's foundations by his hand
Are pois'd, and at his pleasure stand.
He binds the ocean in his chain,
That earth may not be drown'd again.
Great is the Lord, &c.

5 How vast thy works! how great thy skill! Thy riches all creation fill:

The spacious earth is full of thee,
The teeming and tumultuous sea.
Great is the Lord, &c.

6 While in the Lord, our wishes meet,
Our meditations shall be sweet;
The wicked are by him abhorr'd;
But, O my soul, praise thou the Lord.
Great is the Lord, &c.

13. The Omnipresence of God.

Whither shall I flee from thy presence? Ps. 139. 7.

1 WHERE from thy Spirit shall I stretch
The pinions of my flight?

Or where, thro' nature's spacious range
Can I elude thy sight?

2 If to the skies, the lustre there
Would overwhelm my soul;

Or if to hell, there should I hear
Thine awful thunders roll.

3 If on the morning's rising wings
With rapid speed I rode,
I still should be beneath thy hand,
And find a present God.

4 Should I involve myself around
With clouds of tenfold night,

The clouds would shine like blazing noon
Before thy piercing sight.

5 "The blazing noon, the midnight hour,
Are both alike to thee:

O may I ne'er provoke that pow'r
From which I cannot flee !"

14. The Omnipotence of God.

1 TIs all in vain to wish to flee The presence of a holy God, Who through eternity can see,

And sway all kingdoms with a nod.

2 How awful, when his pow'rful hand

Makes the tremendous thunder roll;
Mountains and rocks can ne'er withstand

The pow'r which spreads from pole to pole.

3 Great is the Lord's extended reign, Large as infinity his pow'r;

'Tis like his truth, which must remain, When earth and time shall be no more 4 Ye saints, who are his special care, Extol his might with songs of praise; O serve the Lord with filial fear,

And love his name, and love his ways.

15. The Holiness of God. Is. 6. 3. S. 13. 57. 15. 1 Peter 1. 16.

1 HOLY and reverend is the name
Of God, who dwells on high;
And holy, holy, holy Lord,
The heav'nly armies cry.

2 Holy is he in all his works,
And truth is his delight;
But sinners and their wicked ways
Shall perish from his sight.

3 In deep abasement let us fall,
And tremble at his word,

And lift our hearts up with our hands,
When we approach the Lord.

4 Condemn thyself, and mercy seek
Thro' his beloved Son;

He smiles on broken, contrite hearts,
And brings them near his throne.
