357. After Receiving.

1 LORD, help us on thy love to feed,
In peace dismiss us hence;
Be thou in every time of need
Our Refuge and Defence.

2 Teach us to love thy precious name,
To keep thy holy word,

And with our lips and lives proclaim
The goodness of the Lord.

358. After the Communion. Ps. 63. 2.*
ON the love of Jesus feasting,
Who so happy now as we?
On the Saviour's promise resting,
Who such power and glory see?
Gracious Lord, be ever present,
Thou our only strength and joy;
Then thy ways will all be pleasant,
Then no foe can us annoy..

359. After the Celebration of the Lord's Sup per. Eph. 3. 17. *

1 Now let our fears depart,

And all our thoughts be love;
May Jesus reign in every heart,
And all our sins remove.

2 He is our life and peace,
Our safety and our rest;
And these memorials of his grace
His wondrous love attest.

3 Thy grace, O Lord, afford
To keep us in thy ways,

That we may follow all thy word,
And give thee all the praise.

MORNING AND EVENING.

360. A Morning Hymn. Ps. 3. 5. 97. 1. *
1 THE rising sun has chas'd the night,
And brought again the cheering light:
Thus mercy multiplies our days,
And calls us to renew our praise.

2 We laid us down, and sweetly slept,
The Lord our souls in safety kept:
We wake his goodness to proclain,
And sing new honors to his name.

3 We know not what his will ordains,
But 'tis our joy, that Jesus reigns:
Tho' dangers, snares, and foes abound,
The eternal arms will us surround.

4 Teach us to walk with thee to day,
Our only care to keep thy way;
Ourselves to thee we would resign,
Content to know that we are thine.

361. Morning. Ps. 19. 2. 1 Thes. 5. 5. *

1 AGAIN we hail the rising day,
Preserved by the Lord;
Again we meet to sing and pray,
And learn his holy word.

2 Day unto day, and night to night
Declare thy glorious name;
And we, who now enjoy thy light,
Thy praises would proclaim.

3 We slept in safety, and arose,
By sovereign goodness spar'd;
The Lord, who gave us sweet repose,
Is our perpetual Guard.

4 Defend us, Lord, from every ill,
And teach us all thy way,

That we may do thy holy will,
As children of the day.

[blocks in formation]

The Mercies of God commemorated.

They are new every morning: great is thy faith

fulness.

Lam. 3. 23.

1 THE mercies we from God receive

Are every morning new;
His promises to bless us here
Are sweet and faithful too.

2 Justice demands our life, but he
The awful stroke forbears,
While mercy passes o'er our sins,
And dissipates our fears.

3 Since we are sinners all, and here
So much to mercy owe,
Let us in all our walk with men
Mercy and kindness show.

4 And let us consecrate our time
To our Redeemer's praise;
If righteousness fill up our hoars,
His peace will crown our days.

363. Morning. 1 Tim. 6. 16. Prov. 20. 24. *

1 PRAISE ye the immortal King, Whose dwelling is the light; His loving kindness sing,

Who kept us through the night, His mercies every morn are new, And may his grace our sins subdue.

2 We know not what a day,-
A moment may bring forth;
But he directs our way,

Who rules in heaven and earth.
His favor seek, his praise proclaim;
For they are safe, who love his name.
364. Evening Hymn.

1 GLORY to thee, my God, this night
For all the blessings of the light:
Keep me, O keep me King of kings,
Beneath the shadow of thy wings.

2 For Jesus' sake my sins forgive,
Teach me by faith on him to live;
That with myself, with men, and thee
My soul this night at peace may be.

3 Teach me to live, that I may dread
The grave as little as my bed;
Teach me to die, that so I may
With joy behold the judgment day.

4 Let gentle sleep mine eye-lids close,
And guard me, Lord, while I repose:
And may the strength, which sleep conveys,
Be all devoted to thy praise.

365. Evening. Ps. 139. 12 4. S. *

1 THE day is past, how short its reign!
And sable night presides again.

But with our God there is no night,
The darkness shines as noon day light.
