They are now published in the belief that, supplemented by proper oral teaching, they can be made to effect an economy of time and method which may be acceptable to those whose case resembles the Compiler's-that of a Tutor often called upon to make the best of boys destined for the Public Schools, who, through neglect or misfortune, have suffered the irreparable loss of four or five years of early training, It will be seen that a collateral object of the First Part of the book is to pave the way to a familiarity with the Syntax of the Public School Primer. To the Editor and Publishers of that work and of the Public School Grammar, the thanks of the Compiler are due for their kind sanction of the use he has made of those books. |
