reasonably be expected, where one object was to recall many half-perished names, and to arrange them in exact genealogical order; a work which none can comprehend the nicety and difficulty, but those who have actually made the experiment. The Baronage is distinguished by the most laborious research and extraordinary accuracy, and confers honour upon its author.' -Nicolas. Another gentleman, well qualified to write on the subject, thus notices it: A work which, notwithstanding its partial defects, and the inaccuracies inseparable from so laborious an undertaking, will exist to the latest age, a monument of its author's historical knowledge and antiquarian learning.
