ISTHMIA, IV.

1. Explain the term encomia. Instances of somewhat similar compositions appear before the time of Pindar?

2. Lyric Poetry seems a link between the Mythical and the Historical Periods?

3. What is Paley's argument for the genuineness of the Epistle from the words in the fourth chapter-" In the beginning of the Gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only," &c. ?

4. What are his remarks on the phrase "in the beginning of the Gospel"?

5. How is it indirectly gathered from the Acts that Timothy was at Philippi with Paul?

6. How does it appear that in the Apostolic age ἐπίσκοπος and πρεσβυτέρος expressed the same office ?

7. Explain the bearing on this question of the words of Irenæus on Acts, xx.-"In Mileto convocatis episcopis et presbyteris qui erant ab Epheso et a reliquis proximis civitatibus;" and point out the view of the subject taken by Chrysostom.
