801. TENNYSON (ALFRED, LORD). Poems. 16mo, sewed, unopened. [Lond.: Privately printed for R. Herne Shepherd, 1875] * A very scarce Tennyson item, consisting of half-title and text, pages 1-32. This is one of Shepherd's pirated collections, and so scarce that it is unknown to many Tennyson collectors. It was issued to accompany his fifth pirated edition of "The Lover's Tale," but as in the case of his edition of the "Poems" of 1860, was also intended to be sold separately. It contains the first publication of five poems by Tennyson, viz.: “ AfterThoughts,' 'On a Spiteful Letter," "The Third of February, 1852, "Uplift a Thousand Voices Full and Sweet," and "Translations of Homer."
