Dated Michaelmas, 22 Henry viii (1530). 48 pp., 4to, original limp vellum. 1530 MANUSCRIPT DEALING WITH THE REVENUES OF THE BISHOPRIC OF WINCHESTER. This manuscript was found in a parcel of old "Pexsall' family papers, which had remained unopened for several hundred years, AND IS PROBABLY THE LAST EXISTING RELIC OF THE GREAT CARDINAL WOLSEY. Wolsey was executed on the 29th of November, 1530. Ralph Pexsall, who composed this return, was Wolsey's trusted servant, and became (by Wolsey's influence) Sheriff of Hampshire in 1530. This report was in all probability compiled by Pexsall for Cardinal Wolsey on the latter's receiving the Bishopric, and was completed on September 29, 1530. Two months afterwards, Wolsey was dead. 754.
