IMPORTANT HISTORICAL ITEM, NEARLY EVERY NUMBER CONTAINING INTERESTING MATTER RELATING TO THE WAR OF 1812. The issue of June 9, 1813, describes the fight between Capt. Lawrence's "Chesapeake " and the British frigate “Shannon,' "The Capture of Fort George," and "The Surrender of "Sackett's Harbour." The Gazette" of June 16 gives the official account of our capture of Fort George. Other important issues are June 19 (England's use of the Indians in the War, and official accounts of the surrender of Sackett's Harbour and the destruction of the British ship "Java" by Bainbridge's Constitution "); June 23 ( Events of the War on our Western frontier "); June 30 (list of killed and wounded on board the U. S. frigate "Chesapeake" in the action with the "Shannon'); July 21 and Sept. 15 (Indian uprisings in the South); etc.

Long and important series of this prominent Washington journal, edited by Gen. Duff Green. For a long period the · United States Telegraph " had the most extensive circulation of any political newspaper in this country. Many of the most interesting issues included in these volumes describe Jackson's first Presidential campaign, his first Administration, his treatment of the Civil Service, his two Cabinets, the notorious Mrs. Eaton episode, etc., and are invaluable to students of American political history.
