FIRST EDITION. Though Fletcher's name appears on the title-page as the author, it is really by Shirley, and was licensed in 1635 as the latter's production. Shirley himself claimed it in 1652, in a list of his plays then published, which he appended to the "Cardinal.' excludes it in his editions of Fletcher's works.

Evidently arranged by Stevenson for the flageolet. Playing on these "penny whistles" was one of his greatest hobbies, and it is more than likely that this score helped to ease many a painful hour as he sat in bed whistling, as it were, to keep up his courage.
