Very scarce. The work was issued and edited by Samuel Woodworth, author of "The Old Oaken Bucket," and was the first literary work he did in New York. Besides containing in minute detail, the Naval and Military Operations in the North and West, it also recalls the Campaigns against the Indians in the South, and is interspersed throughout with patriotic Poems and Songs. The rarest of all Whitman items. Unknown to most of the Whitman

Collectors and not in the fine Williamson collection. A booklet of 64 pages containing American and European Criticisms from 1855 to 1860. The publisher included a considerable number of very unfavorable critiques, including some very bitter attacks. Two of the reviews were written by Walt Whitman himself. Nowhere else are. his aims more clearly and forcibly expressed than in this early writing.
