A VERY FINE MANUSCRIPT, which he has captioned "Positions to be examined.'' In this manuscript Franklin treats of Food, Labor, Manufactures, Commerce, Agriculture, etc.

"There seems to be but three ways for a Nation to acquire wealth. The first is by War as the Romans did in p'undering their conquered Neighbors. This is ROBBERY. The second is by Commerce which is generally CHEATING. The third by Agriculture the only HONEST WAY,” etc.

A LONG AND DELIGHTFUL LETTER ENTIRELY ABOUT DICKENS. In it Frith remarks on the portrait he painted of the novelist; of reminiscences occurring during the sittings; of his impressions of Dickens' reading of "Pickwick" and his criticism of the rendering of the character of Sam Weller, etc.

A most interesting portion relates to the receipt by Dickens of a novel from George Eliot, with the request to read it and pass judgment, at which Dickens was first provoked, but later delighted, and remarked to Frith that it was written by a woman,' "etc.
