FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. Dedicated to the Governor of the South Sea Company. At the end is a most interesting Supplementary Account of the Settlement, Commerce and Riches of the Jesuites in Paraguay." This is by Dr. Edmund Halley, who gave the first account of the "trade" winds, also originated the science of life statistics. He predicted accurately the return of the Comet of 1581 named after him, "Halley's Comet.",

The plates include plans of Lima, Callao, and Santiago, Chile. At page 62 is a plate showing Indians playing a game with ball and clubs, which is practically the golf game of to-day.

THE EXTREMELY RARE FIRST EDITION. This, one of the finest, if not THE finest poems on the war published in "The Times' Sept. 9th, and reprinted at Hove by permission, September 16th.

The entire issue was given to soldiers proceeding to France in 1914, which would account for its disappearance and scarcity.

This, and the two following items belong to the widow of one of the first expeditionary soldiers.

In the original wrapping, bearing Bret Harte's Autograph Signed Endorsement, adding "8881 words, February 1889."

496. HARTE (BRET). The complete original autograph manuscript of his humorous poems, entitled "Seventy-Nine: Mr. Interviewer Interviewed." 3 pages, 4to, enclosed in a half morocco slip case.

A very characteristic manuscript of the noted humorist neatly written in his fine clear hand.

"Know me next time when you see me, won't you, old smarty!
O, I mean you, old figger head-just the same party.

Take out your pensivil, d-m you, sharpen it do!
