According to the editor's prefatory note, Cagliostro originally wrote his statement in Italian & it was translated into French by his lawyer Thilorier; this would appear to be a translation back into Italian from the French version, published with title Memoire pour le comte de Cagliostro, accusé; this translation varies from that of the edition dated "1786" in 63 p. with title beginning "Memoria."
